Volume Meshes

Volume inputs use the enclosed interior of a mesh. Pro Particles Studio automatically prepares suitable meshes for simulation without changing the source object, animation, vertex groups or visible mesh.

Automatic preparation

Target Volume, Volume Bind, Volume emission, Shape Matching Volume, Object Volume masks, Dendrite Volume boundaries and mesher Clip Volumes share automatic preparation in Lists and Nodes. Pyro Volume emitters and repairable solid Pyro colliders use the same preparation.

Small openings, duplicate faces and inconsistent face orientation can be corrected automatically for simulation. Separate parts and enclosed cavities are preserved. Larger defects require editing the source mesh.

Preparation follows the animated mesh. Restart Volume Bind after changing the source's vertex or face connections. Collection inputs prepare each mesh separately.

Dynamic Collider, Soft Body and Cloth Balloon also allow small openings to be closed for simulation. FLIP Collider Cut-outs and Enter Volume / Leave Volume Events require a usable enclosed volume; preparing it does not change the selected Collision object's surface.

Limits

Automatic sealing handles up to 16 simple openings, 64 edges per opening and 256 boundary edges in total. Each opening's diameter must be at most 25% of the mesh's longest dimension. Complex or animated meshes can take longer to prepare and use more memory.

A plane or collapsed mesh has no interior volume. Automatic preparation cannot reconstruct missing large sections, resolve branching or intersecting surfaces, or recover non-finite coordinates. These meshes show an error when an enclosed volume is required. Open Collision and Pyro Collider surfaces can still act as surface obstacles. Volume sensors and FLIP cut-outs require preparation to produce a solid volume.
